Having a sense of wellbeing, being able to function during everyday life and feeling confident to rise to a challenge when the opportunity comes along, are all part of being mentally healthy. Just like your physical health, there are actions you can take to increase your mental health. Boost your wellbeing and stay mentally healthy by following a few simple steps.
Connect with others
The quality of our personal relationships has a great effect on our wellbeing. You can reap great rewards by putting time and effort into building strong relationships. Develop and maintain strong relationships with people around you who will support you and also enrich your life.
Take care of yourself
Physical and mental health are closely linked. It’s easier to feel good about life if your body feels good. Be active and eat well – these help maintain a healthy body. Combine physical activity with a balanced diet and this will nourish your body and mind keeping you feeling good inside and out.
Rest and Refresh
Sleep restores both your mind and your body. Make sure to get plenty of sleep, but more importantly go to bed at a regular time each day and practice good sleeping habits. There are a number of sleeping formulations available, such as Rescue Sleep Spray and Prosomnia that may be useful. It is important to note that feelings of fatigue can still present if you feel constantly rushed and overwhelmed when you are awake. So, allow yourself some unfocused time each day to refresh – now you have a reason to daydream.
Deal with stress
Stress is a part of life and affects everyone in different ways. Stress is necessary, however becomes a problem when it makes you feel distressed and uncomfortable. Be aware of what triggers your stress and how you react, so that you can learn to avoid some of the triggers or learn to prepare for or manage others.
Stress has been shown to be linked to a deficiency in vitamin B, and there has been a link with a marked vitamin B deficiency and mental illness. Vitamin B supplements and stress formulations may be useful, such as Blackmores Executive B Stress Formula and Swisse Ultiboost Mega B Complex.
Learning improves your mental fitness, while striving to meet your goals builds skills and confidence and gives you sense of progress and eventually achievement. Learn a new skill or take on a challenge to meet a goal. It could be something such as learning to cook a new recipe or committing to a fitness goal.
Lastly, and most importantly is to ask for help when you need it. This can range from simple to more complex requests.
